Barnsley Older People Physical Activity Alliance

The Barnsley Older People Physical Activity Alliance (BOPPAA) is aiming to increase the provision of physical activity programmes that will improve the strength and balance of older people across Barnsley.

Funded by Barnsley Council and led by Age UK Barnsley, the BOPPAA is an alliance of NHS, private and third sector organisations offering physical activity opportunities for over 50s in Barnsley.

A specialised Tai Chi session that focuses on falls prevention and arthritis. Dr Lam’s Tai Chi for Arthritis programme has helped many thousands of people across the world to improve their health and wellbeing through regular Tai Chi practice. Research shows this programme can improve balance, reduce falls, reduce joint pain and improve flexibility and mood.

Next Steps Forward. Walks within Barnsley and district for people living with and beyond breast cancer. The walks are led by experienced walk leaders and are on good paths with no steep hills at a pace to suit everyone. The routes vary each week and take in some beautiful scenery in Barnsley and the surrounding areas as well some local cafes too! Get in touch to get the monthly timetable and to book a place.

Saturday walks usually take place on the first Saturday of the month. All walks are scheduled to meet at 10.15 for the walk to start at 10.30am unless otherwise stated on the walks timetable. Walk Together Barnsley. Join the walk leader for an enjoyable guided walk on the scenic footpaths through Rabbit Ings Country Park. The length of the walk can be adjusted to suit the group. The paths are made of crushed stone and are suitable for wheelchairs.
